Ways to find new inspiration when you are beading

It’s easy to fall in love with beading but no so easy to keep generating new ideas for craft projects. That being the case, we thought we’d offer our help at The Bead Shop and write a list of places where you can find fresh ideas, new hope and a touch of inspiration for beading projects. Take a trip down our top five list of places to feel inspired.

  • The garden: Outside is a great place to feel inspired about beading so spend time in your garden over the spring and summer and look at the different plants and flowers that have so many beautiful colours. See how different hues work together, savour the smells and the feel of the flowers; let your senses be inspired by the flora and fauna.
  • Art galleries: Spend a couple of hours walking around an art gallery and look at the different styles of paintings. This will stir your creative juices, you see how artists used different colours, styles and techniques to bring their paintings to life and it could just give you the inspiration you need to create something rather special.
  • Museums: Find a place filled with artefacts from different periods in history, you could take fresh ideas from clothing, jewellery or any item from the past.
  • Books: Look at the sheer amount of books there are relating to beading and take your pick from a wealth of material. There are various guides to buy on beading, you can pick specific books about Swarovski crystals or wooden beads, plus countless others that are written with the needs of the beading community in mind. Read a book about beading and it should give you plenty of ideas.
  • Clothing stores: Take a trip to your local fashion store, spend time looking at textures, feeling fabrics and savouring the delights of the colours on display. Imagine how your beaded jewellery would look next to the fashions and buy something as a little treat whilst you are in the store!
