Fun ideas for festive beading projects

You might not want to be reminded but Christmas is just around the corner and it’s a great time to put your creative hat on and use beads in a fun festive way. The Bead Shop wants to wish you a happy holiday in advance and we’ve drawn up a shortlist of fun ways to bring out the best in beads over the festive period.

  • Decorate baubles with beads: Take a plain old bauble and bring it to life by sticking beads around the centre. You can give the bauble a little skirt or create interesting patterns using beads on the surface area and totally cover the decoration if you like.
  • Create beaded cards: Use a selection of different coloured beads to create your own range of ‘designer’ Christmas cards. Get the kids involved, they’ll love making fun festive cards you can use a touch of glitter to really bring the cards to life.
  • Make your own tree decorations: Thread beads onto string and dangle them from the branches of the tree or cut out cardboard templates of Santa, Rudolph and snowmen then cover them in coloured beads. Stick a few beads on the front and the back and they’ll glimmer and gleam next to the tree lights.
  • Design festive table accessories: Turn a glass tea-light into a Christmas candle holder and glue red or green beads around the side. The candles will flicker and the light will reflect through the beads and turn them into miniature jewels.
  • Add the festive look to jewellery: Use white, red and green beads and make Christmas necklaces and earrings that you can wear throughout the holiday season. It’ll put you in a great mood and you can make them for family and friends to get them in the festive spirit too!

Beads are fun and you can bring the magic of Christmas alive in your home if you think of crafty ways to celebrate at this happy time of year.
